Uplift Program
Uplift is a Conference-driven program whose commitment is to support a family or individual over a longer term with financial help, complemented by mentoring, appropriate referrals to other agencies, and other formation or instruction by a Conference member or other designationed programs provided or recommended by the CSC. It is an extension of the casework assistance that St. Vincent de Paul Society Conferences traditionally provide to those in need.
How does Uplift work?
The first task is the identification of a client that will benefit from the Uplift program. This can occur in different ways and often through the casework of a home visit. Once a candidate is identified, a preliminary screening process takes place with several interviews. If the candidate is accepted by the selecting committee, the Conference and client enter into a formal agreement, which outlines the specific details of the program, including the specified time period, the parameters of the program, the amount of financial assistance to be given each month, the mentoring process and other details as deemed necessary from the interview process.
What are the benefits of Uplift?
Uplift's flexibility allows Conferences to choose who, what, how much, and how long to assist. All family types can be assisted (single individuals, couples with or without children, single parents with children). Conferences can assist clients with one or more monthly expenses, such as rent or mortgage payments, child care, medical expenses or other identified expenses. Clients benefit form a longer-term relationship that gives them a greater chance to get back on their feet. For example, this is an opportunity to work with clients who need some time to improve job skills by taking a training course, look for better-paying employment with benefits or recover from a temporary disability/illness. Giving clients an opportunity to increase their income and stablize their life situation is an important step and can take some time.
