The Aug. 18, 2008 meeting began
with the praying of the rosary @ 6:30 pm, followed by the meeting and
meal.
Since the minutes of the
previous meeting were e-mailed to all members, none were read.
Our new president, Mary Stumm began by giving a over-view of the function of
the Guild: Through fund-raisers, we support the church community by
providing funeral luncheons for families of deceased church members, assisting in the purchase of items needed by
the church, hosting receptions for First Communion, Confirmation, RCIA,
Ordinations, etc., and providing sponsorship of our youths to retreats. Mary also thanked our previous officers for
their dedication, and Carmen Amodio for instituting
the praying of the Rosary as part of our monthly meeting. She also thanked Margo Hagan for her efforts
at last year’s Christmas Boutique & the yard sale, and for chairing this
year’s Christmas Market.
We each introduced ourselves,
giving a brief bio. and sharing what we liked most
about being a part of St. Vincent de Paul.
Our new treasurer, Kathi Ryan, reported on the current
balances of our checking and savings accounts, along with expenses paid. She also reviewed with everyone the procedure
for getting reimbursed by the Guild for approved purchases.
Marylou Bishop, our new vice-president, spoke about the AACCW
Convention, which will be held Sept. 5th - 7th,
2008. There will be daily masses,
seminars, workshops, as well as individual deanery meetings. Also, by-laws governing the Council of
Catholic Women will be discussed. She
and Jo Anne Burch will go as our representatives, and their expenses will be
paid by the Guild. Marylou also asked if
anyone could donate infant layette items, or adult under-garments & socks,
or cash for the seminarians, which will be part of the donations from the
entire AACCW group. The Guild will host
the NW Deanery meeting on February 21, 2009, from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. More info. will be available at future meetings.
There are sign-up sheets in the
Narthex for upcoming events. They
are: Paulding Meadows the week-end of Sept. 6th & 7th,
and the Arbor Day Parish Clean-Up on Sept. 13th . Volunteers are needed for all events.
The Fall Festival will be
Sept. 28, 2008, after the 10:30 am mass.
The Guild will again provide cakes, pies, and breads for the Cake
Walk. A sign-up sheet was circulated for
bakers and workers. E-mail reminders
will be sent.
Time & Talent will also be the week-end of Sept. 27th & 28th,
after all masses, except the 6:00 pm mass.
Members volunteered to carry the Women’s Altar Rosary Guild Ministry
Cross for each of the masses. E-mail
reminders will be sent.
A sign-up sheet for volunteers was
circulated for Confirmation, which will be Sunday, October 19, 2008, at
the 5:00 pm Mass. We will discuss again
at the next meeting. E-mail reminders
will be sent.
Mary Stumm
suggested that the Guild attend mass as a group, on a designated
week-end. Hopefully, this will bring
attention to our organization, and inspire new parishioners to join. She will request Oct. 25th &
26th, and a week-end in May.
As the church’s representative to Ignatius
House, Nancy McDermott asked the Guild to consider going there for a
retreat. December 12th - 14th,
2008 has already been set aside for members of St. Vincent de Paul Church, and
it would be a good time to take advantage of this.
DJ Andrus informed us that the St.
Vincent de Paul Society will be raffling a quilt for the UPLIFT
Project. The Society is asking each
ministry to sponsor a square of the quilt for $50.00. We voted to sponsor a square.
Margo Hagan reported that the next
craft meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at 1:00 pm. She will send an e-mail reminder.
Mary Speeney
asked if Guild members could donate toiletries to our Food Pantry. This would include regular-size toothpaste,
deodorant, bar soap, shampoo & conditioner, lotion, etc. Please bring whatever you can to the next
meeting.
Mary Stumm
asked Guild members to continue to assist anyone who wants to make a purchase
from Angel’s Closet, before or after masses. Mary Speeney also
reminded us of the procedure to follow when making a purchase, and the
envelopes and lock-box on top of the cabinet that displays the items.
Mary Stumm
distributed raffle tickets for Guild members to sell, benefitting
Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Cancer Home. Most members bought tickets during the
meeting. Margo Hagan will help sell
tickets after the 4:00 pm mass on Sept. 13th, and Mary Stumm will sell them after the 10:30 am mass on Sept. 14th. Money and stubs can be left in the Guild mailbox, in a sealed envelop. All money & stubs need to be returned to
Mary by Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008.
Marylou announced that a group of
ladies have been meeting for Tea at various tea houses. Anyone interested in meeting for tea should
contact DJ Andrus. The next tea date is
Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, in Powder Springs.
Lori Hall thanked all of the Guild
members who volunteer for Sacristan Duty.
Carmen Amodio
will send a THINKING-OF-YOU card to Cyndi Babecka,
from the Guild.
The Guild received several THANK-YOU
cards: Carmen Amodio & Sandy Krzyzanski (out-going officer appreciation gifts), Nancy
Chisholm & Family (funeral luncheon), Loggiodice
Family (Omar’s ordination reception), Julie Pleus
(Hydrangea plant).
A sign-up sheet for Guild meeting
refreshments was circulated. Thanks to
all who signed up. The sheet is full!!
The September meeting has
been changed from Sept. 15th to Monday, Sept. 22, 2008.
The meeting was adjourned
at 9:15 pm.
Respectfully submitted: Marguerite
